The 25 Most Dog-Friendly Cities in the World in 2026

BySherry Arkfeld June 20, 2025January 23, 2026 UpdatedJanuary 23, 2026

There’s nothing worse than getting to a destination and discovering that your dog isn’t welcome. You travel with your dog so you can enjoy the time together, not to leave him alone all day.

I’m a full-time traveler with my dog, and I spend a lot of time researching where to go next.

This list is the result of tons of research and experience, along with the latest info on cities that are stepping up their game for dog lovers.

Whether you’re planning a short trip or moving abroad with your pup, these are the places where your dog will actually be part of the adventure, not stuck inside while you’re out exploring.

The Most Dog-Friendly Cities in the World

Important Note: As of August 1, 2024, all dogs entering the U.S., whether you’re visiting from another country or just returning home from a trip abroad, must meet updated CDC requirements.

Dogs must be at least six months old, microchipped, and have a completed CDC Dog Import Form.

If your dog has been in a country considered high-risk for rabies in the past six months, you’ll also need additional paperwork like proof of rabies vaccination or a blood titer test.

These rules apply to all entry points, including by air, land, or sea. I break it all down in my article on bringing dogs into the United States so you can avoid surprises at the airport.
