Are you wondering what Cozumel weather in April is like? You’re in the right place.

I lived in Cozumel for nearly two years, so I’ve seen all the seasons. April is a great month to visit the island.

Rain is minimal, the days are long and sunny, and while it’s starting to heat up, it hasn’t yet reached the peak summer humidity. It’s the kind of weather that makes beach time, snorkeling, and exploring the island feel effortless.

Here’s what to expect if you’re heading to Cozumel in April.

A Mexican flag waves atop a tall ship mast near the shore, surrounded by lush palm trees and overlooking the deep blue Caribbean Sea. A small red boat floats in the distance under a bright, clear sky, adding to the tropical coastal atmosphere.

Overview of Cozumel Weather in April

  • Average High Temperature: Approximately 85°F (29°C)
  • Average Low Temperature: Around 75°F (24°C)
  • Average Water Temperature: Typically about 82°F (28°C)
  • Average Rainfall: Around 1.6 inches (4 cm)
  • Average Humidity: Generally about 75%

April in Cozumel is warm and dry. Days are perfect for outdoor adventures, while evenings stay mild enough to comfortably enjoy dining outside or walking along the waterfront.

The sea breezes help balance the humidity, so it feels tropical but not overwhelming.

Crystal-clear turquoise waters stretching out to the horizon under a bright blue sky. A rocky ledge in the foreground overlooks the calm sea, where darker patches indicate coral or underwater rocks. The scene exudes a serene tropical coastal vibe.

What the Weather Really Feels Like

April feels like summer is just around the corner. Mornings are warm, afternoons are hot enough for the beach, and evenings hover in the mid-70s, which is still pleasant.

Rain is rare and usually quick, so you can plan outdoor activities with confidence. Sunshine dominates most days, and the ocean is warm and calm for swimming, snorkeling, or diving.

Humidity is moderate but manageable. If you’ve got curly hair like me, this might be the month it starts expanding. But for most people, the sea breezes keep it comfortable.

What to Pack For a Trip to Cozumel in April

  • Light Jacket or Sweater: You probably won’t need it for outside, but sometimes restaurants and museums crank up the air conditioning way too much. I use this lightweight jacket that folds up into its own pouch. It doubles as sun protection.
  • Umbrella: Good to have all year. If you don’t need it for rain, you can use it for shade on hot days. I carry this small umbrella pretty much all the time.
  • Water Shoes: Many of Cozumel’s beaches are rocky and slippery. Water shoes like these are a necessity here.
  • Sunscreen: Even on cloudy days, you need sunscreen. Opt for a reef-safe sunscreen to avoid harming the coral.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Cozumel’s water is not safe to drink. Take purified water with you in this reusable bottle that also keeps your water cold. I like it because the lid closes over the straw to keep it clean.

Things to Do in Cozumel in April

Here’s a look at some of the things you can do in Cozumel during April:

Scuba Diving: With the water temperature a pleasant 82°F (28°C), April is prime time for scuba diving in Cozumel. The visibility is excellent, making it a diver’s paradise.

Snorkeling: If you prefer staying closer to the surface, snorkeling in Cozumel during April is equally fantastic. There are many places where you can snorkel right from the shore and see a ton of fish.

Beach Activities: Cozumel’s beaches are perfect for relaxation and fun in April. When you get hungry, just pop into a beach bar for some lunch and a frosty beverage.

Or check out one of the full-service beach clubs like Buccanos or Paradise Beach.

Cultural Festivals: Keep an eye out for local festivals, particularly around the Easter holidays. These celebrations often include traditional dances, music, and food, providing a glimpse into the rich culture of the island.

Exploring the Island: Rent a car and explore Cozumel’s lush landscapes. Visit the San Gervasio Mayan archaeological site, or take a leisurely stroll in the charming San Miguel town center, where you can enjoy local cuisine and shop for unique souvenirs.

April is also a good time to go hiking. Stick to the paths near the ocean so you can hop in to cool off.

Nature Parks and Excursions: Visit ecological parks like Chankanaab Beach Adventure Park or Faro Celerain Eco Park, where you can see diverse wildlife, go zip-lining, or simply enjoy the natural beauty of the island.

Fishing: April is a great month for deep-sea fishing in Cozumel. The waters are teeming with species like marlin, sailfish, and mahi-mahi. You can join a charter trip and enjoy the thrill of catching your own dinner.

Two snorkelers glide through the crystal-clear turquoise water at El Cielo in Cozumel, with one large orange starfish visible on the white sandy seafloor below. Sunlight filters through the water, highlighting the vibrant underwater scene.

Safety Tips for April Travel

  • Travel Insurance: Always a good idea. I recommend SafetyWing for coverage that includes delays, cancellations, and emergencies.
  • Hurricane Season: April is outside hurricane season, but always check forecasts.
  • Sun Protection: With strong tropical sun, reef-safe sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses are essential.
  • Rip Currents: Be cautious on the east side of the island where currents are stronger.
  • Hydration: Carry water and drink more than you think you need.
