Are you planning your next vacation and wondering about Cozumel weather in February? You’re in the right place.

I lived in Cozumel long enough to experience every season twice, and February is absolutely wonderful.

The days are warm, the nights are comfortable, and the humidity and rain are low. Add in Carnaval, and you’ve got one of the most exciting months to visit.

Here’s what you can expect from Cozumel in February.

Overview of Cozumel Weather in February

  • Average High Temperature: 83°F (28°C)
  • Average Low Temperature: 68°F (20°C)
  • Water Temperature: 79°F (26°C)
  • Rainfall: 1.8 inches (4.5 cm)
  • Humidity: Typically around 78%

February is warm without being stifling. Mornings and evenings are cooler, making it easy to explore, and the ocean is warm enough for long swims or snorkeling trips. Rainfall is low, so most days are sunny with only the occasional quick shower.

A peaceful tropical beach scene with soft white sand, turquoise blue ocean, and palm fronds casting shadows in the foreground. Rocky shoreline edges meet the clear water under a bright sky with scattered clouds.

What the Weather Really Feels Like

Cozumel in February is exactly what you want when you’re escaping winter elsewhere.

The days are sunny and breezy, with temperatures that make outdoor activities comfortable. Evenings are pleasant for dining outside or strolling along the waterfront.

Humidity is present, but it’s not the heavy, sticky kind you’ll feel in the summer months. You’ll notice the tropical air without feeling like you’re walking through soup.

Rain is rare, and when it does happen, it usually passes quickly. More often than not, February days are perfect for diving, lounging on the beach, or taking an island tour.

What to Pack For a Trip to Cozumel in February

  • Light Jacket or Sweater: You won’t need anything too heavy, but something to protect you from windy evenings or chilly mornings will be handy. I use this lightweight jacket that folds up into its own pouch. It doubles as sun protection.
  • Rain Gear: February isn’t rainy season, but a short downpour can still happen. We’re in the tropics, after all. Pack lightweight rain jackets or ponchos for sudden showers.
  • Umbrella: Good to have all year. If you don’t need it for rain, you can use it for shade on hot days. I carry this small umbrella pretty much all the time.
  • Water Shoes: Many of Cozumel’s beaches are rocky and slippery. Water shoes like these are a necessity here.
  • Sunscreen: Even on cloudy days, you need sunscreen. Opt for a reef-safe sunscreen to avoid harming the coral.
  • Reusable Water Bottle: Cozumel’s water is not safe to drink. Take purified water with you in this reusable bottle that also keeps your water cold. I like it because the lid closes over the straw to keep it clean.
A playful purple octopus sculpture with big eyes, a green hat, and pink-tipped tentacles sits on a white pedestal by the ocean. The bright blue sky and calm sea in the background enhance the whimsical, seaside charm.

Things to Do in Cozumel in February

Here’s a roundup of some of the best things to do in Cozumel in February:

Experience Carnaval: The highlight of February in Cozumel is undoubtedly Carnaval. Carnaval is held prior to Lent, which is usually in February or March. Cozumel has several parades and parties and it’s such a fun time.

Get a table at a restaurant on the second floor along the parade route. It’s worth every penny! Although usually your reservation fee will be applied to your food and drinks so the cost is minimal.

If you’re coming for Carnaval, be sure to book your hotel early as they fill up! Find a Cozumel hotel here.

Snorkeling and Diving: The clear waters and moderate temperatures make this month excellent for underwater adventures. Whether you’re a seasoned diver or a first-time snorkeler, the marine life in Cozumel’s reefs is a must-see.

You’ll find many places where you can snorkel right from the shore. But be sure to take a snorkeling tour to El Cielo. It’s one of the most beautiful spots on the island.

Cultural Tours: Take advantage of the cooler February weather to indulge in some cultural tours. Visit the ancient Mayan ruins at San Gervasio, explore the island’s history at the Cozumel Museum, or take a tequila tour.

Beach Time: Of course, no visit to Cozumel is complete without some quality beach time. To be fair, I say that every month is perfect for the beach. Check out a beach club like Buccanos or Paradise Beach. Or if you prefer, Cozumel has several public beaches you can visit.

A wide expanse of crystal-clear turquoise ocean stretches toward the horizon under a bright blue sky with fluffy white clouds. In the distance, a coastal town with low buildings lines the shore, creating a serene tropical seascape.

Safety Tips for February Travel

  • Hurricane Season: February is outside hurricane season, so storms aren’t a concern.
  • Weather Awareness: Conditions can still change quickly, especially for diving or boating. Always check forecasts before heading out.
  • Sun Protection: The equatorial sun is strong, even in February. Reef-safe sunscreen, hats, and UV clothing are your friends.
  • Travel Insurance: Always a smart idea. Even if weather in Cozumel is great, winter storms in the U.S., Canada, or Europe can delay flights. I use SafetyWing because it covers weather-related delays and emergencies.

Helpful Resources

  • Cozumel Guest Assist App – This app is super helpful. If you need any assistance, including in an emergency, you can get help on the app.
  • The Weather Channel: Great for short-term forecasts, but remember that island weather changes quickly.

YES. No matter when you visit Mexico, don’t forget to buy travel insurance. It’s a small price to pay for peace of mind. If you need it once it will pay for itself many times over. Maybe — It depends on your company, so check with your provider. If you don’t have free service in Mexico, the least expensive option is to buy a Telcel SIM card. As Mexico’s largest carrier, Telcel has the best coverage of any Mexico SIM Cards. I have one and it’s been a lifesaver.

You can also get an eSIM. Airalo has coverage in over 200 countries/regions, including Mexico.
